Be Kind reaches out to Solihull schools

Solihull Editorial 30th Aug, 2024   0

KINDNESS has been at the heart of a Solihull woman’s work since the Covid pandemic and now she and her team are helping borough families.

Yasmin Poulson helped set up the Solihull charity Hampers for Heroes at the height of the pandemic before branching out to launch Be Kind to help the homeless, women’s refuges and the boost foodbanks.

Now that has been handed over to a charity Yasmin and her team have launched the Kindness School Pantry scheme.

This new Be Kind initiative has teamed up with seven schools which have a pantry stocked with necessities for those impacted by the cost of living crisis.

How the items are distributed has been handed over to each school’s Family Support Worker to decide and distribute the supplies to the families that they have assessed.

Over the summer holidays Yasmin and her team of volunteers Be Kind put together hampers full of food as well as games, toys and activities to help families with financial worries.

The volunteers collect food and items from across Solihull and Birmingham and organise it before delivering it to the pantries.

Yasmin said: “In wanting to make a difference to those struggling I have found an amazing group of people who share my passion and volunteer to work on rota basis.

“So far it’s been a great success, with Be Kind and our local schools working together to ensure the Kindness Pantries are regularly topped by various donation and fund raising activities.”

But now Yasmin and her volunteers are calling on residents to help out where they can – whether individuals can donate a few items or if groups or schools can join forces and have a donation drive to help boost supplies.
