Balsall Common Lions doing their bit to help foodbanks this weekend

Solihull Editorial 21st Jul, 2023 Updated: 21st Jul, 2023   0

BALSALL Common Lions will be out and about this Saturday, July 22, collecting items for local foodbanks.

People wanting to donate can leave their donations on their doorsteps or driveways before 10.30am for the Lions’ Summer Sleigh to pick up so they can be distributed to people in desperate need.

Because of the cost-of-living crisis, the need this year is greater than ever and people are urged to contribute what they can.

Among the items being sought by the small band of volunteers are any tinned foods – vegetables, baked beans, meat, fish or soup, dried foods, such as pasta, pasta sauce, rice and cereals, and toiletries – maybe even unwanted Christmas or birthday gifts.

The sleigh will be out and about between 9.30am and 10.30am on the Saturday as a reminder before the door-to-door collection fully gets under way at 11am, touring the streets of the village.

Alternatively, people can donate food items on Saturday at the Co-op car park between 11am and 2pm, the village hall between midday and 3pm or one of the other drop-off points.

Visit balsallcommonlions.org or the group’s Facebook page – facebook.com/BalsallCommonLionsClub – for a list of the drop-off points.

People wanting to donate cash to the cause can visit cafdonate.cafonline.org/23697 to pledge what they can give.

Because of summer holidays, the group has less volunteers for this collection so it may take longer than usual.

Anyone who wants to volunteer to help with collecting items or sorting them can contact the Lions through the website or the Facebook page – all help would be appreciated.
