BALSALL Common is about to celebrate its biggest weekend of the year as the Festival and Fun Run takes place.

On Saturday (September 19) there will be a full day and evening’s entertainment at the Lant on Meeting House Lane.  Gates open at 12noon for a fete, country market, children’s activities, live music, finals of Balsall’s Got the Voice – with a management deal and recording time up for grabs for the winner, an Octathlon competition for young people, food stalls, and a dog show.

There will be more than 50 stalls at the event during the day and the evening’s music is headlined by Jarzino.

Members of the local networking group the Balsall Business Club are also donating their time and skills as tombola prizes, including handyman services, landscape garden advice, social media support, business training and support.

The village’s second Fun Run takes place on Sunday, September 20, giving runners have the choice of 5k or 10k, with mini fun runs for primary school children.

Organised by local charity the Lily Mae Foundation the event raises money for a range of good causes.

Festival Chair, Craig Burgess said: “By the Community for the community’ – that’s our motto.

“Our primary aim for Party Saturday is to bring the local community together for a fun-filled day of activities and entertainment, from noon until 9pm.

“Our secondary aim is to generate an operating surplus capable of being ploughed into good causes. In our first three years, we have established a track-record for distributing significant funds to good causes each year.

“We’re extremely grateful to all the sponsors and volunteers that make the day possible, including Nailcote Hall, Avion TSL, Acorn Printing, CP Barbers, Capellas, and particularly Simon Burt The Estate Agent, our overall Weekend supporter this year.”

There’s lots more information on the Festival website www.bcfest.co.uk or on Facebook and Twitter.
