POLICE have arrested the mother of a seven-week-old baby after she was taken from Heartlands Hospital.
The baby girl is subject to child protection arrangements and was taken from the hospital at 8.30am on Sunday morning, May 30.
It sparked a major operation to locate both mother and baby, and just before 8.30pm that same evening they were both found safe and well at a property in Sparkhill.
The 43-year-old mother was taken into custody on suspicion of child abduction.
Two other women were also taken into custody for assisting an offender. They were released pending further investigation.
Detective Inspector Neil Hunt said: “It has been our absolute priority throughout the day to ensure the safety of the baby girl and I am happy to say that she has been well cared for.
“Sadly it has been necessary to arrest her mother, but we will be working with partner agencies to achieve the best outcome for the child.”
