AN AUTHOR returned to Solihull Sixth Form College to give pupils a masterclass in creative writing.

Ross Turner gave out hints and tip on how to write stories and get published before speaking about his own writing career.

Ross studied A level English Language, Mathematics and Physical Education during his time at the college and now juggles his writing with studying for a Masters degree at the University of Gloucestershire and working for the Royal Air Force.

He has published 11 books, two short story collections and seven poems.

His novels come in four series: The Tamarack Series, The Redwoods, The Dreadhunt Trilogy, and most recently The Terra Cycle. He has also started his own journal of short stories called ‘Superlative’, which will be published once a year.

Assistant curriculum leader for English Andrew Jackson commented, “We are grateful to Ross for giving up his time to come back to College and talk to our most eager creative writers.

“As teachers, we are proud of Ross’s accomplishments and it is wonderful to be able to show current students the sort of success to which they can aspire.

“He had some very useful advice, which will aid their own creative writing in the future.”
