A SOLIHULL charity shop was filled with art lovers after it was Art Bombed.
The Blue Cross shop welcomed Sophie Tea from her gallery in London to do a charity shop hunt and turn it into a piece of art which would then be donated back to the shop fans a two-hour window to buy it at the original price.
Helen Brunton, assistant shop manager, told The Observer she assumed the young woman who came up to her wanting to buy a lamp and she said she would augment it and donate it back was an art student.
However, when a man arrived at the shop hours later asking about the lamp but it was when a woman asked the same thing when Helen said the atmosphere started to change.
She said: “When three more people turned up, I realised something special was happening.
“When at least 20 had turned up, our shop, on the hottest day of the year so far, was like a sauna, but the good-natured party atmosphere was fabulous.
“Sophie arrived at 4:30pm, I think even she was astonished at her popularity on arriving to find a shop full of fans.
“Names were put into a hat and a lucky lady won the privilege of buying Sophie’s artwork for just £5.”
