POLICE arrested two people and seized six vehicles during a crackdown on road safety near the NEC.

Officers from the Road Harm Prevention Team at West Midlands Police joined forces with council licensing teams, the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), DataTag and HMRC Revenue and Customs to target dangerous drivers.

The operation was a hailed a success by West Midlands Police, with six vehicles seized and a further 12 prohibited from the road due to dangerous defects and being overweight.

A 39-year-old man was arrested for driving while disqualified.

In a dramatic twist, officers also intercepted a trailer carrying two horses.

Thanks to swift investigation and support from the equestrian community, the horses were identified as having been stolen from Cumbria overnight.

A 60-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of theft. The ponies were safely reunited with their owner.
