POLICE in Shirley were joined by specialist officers and Streetwatch volunteers to carry out a day of action.
Officers responded to concerns from residents and businesses with a visible presence to deter crime in and around Stratford Road.
Alongside the uniformed presence, plain clothes officers were in shops to catch potential thieves in the act.
The Safer Travel team were also involved, with additional officers working on the local bus network to help keep passengers safe.
Targeted patrols of the car parks in and around Stratford Road were also carried out.
Officers from the Road Harm Team and our off-road bikes team also visited Shirley responding to concerns around dangerous and illegal off-road bikers.
Results from the day included – two people arrested for theft from shop, three vehicles seized for no insurance or licence, three stop and searches for stolen goods, one of which resulted in the recovery of an item stolen in an earlier theft and one community resolution issued for theft from shop.
Sergeant Kev Vince from the Shirley Neighbourhood Team said: “Our teams are focused on reducing crime in Shirley every day, but days like this where we get support from colleagues in specialist teams really help boost their efforts.
“This isn’t a one-off, we have ongoing days of action planned as well as our daily activity reducing crime and keeping our communities safe.”
