PUPILS and teachers got on their bikes and cycled 100km in support of The Lily Mae Foundation.

The 32-stong team of 23 year nine pupils and nine teachers from Arden Academy embarked on a demanding route starting near Balsall Common and riding all the way to Stratford and to Arden Academy in Knowle on one of the hottest days of the year so far.

Despite the heat and long journey, the riders returned, completing their challenge at 6.30pm, cheered on by staff, friends, and family.

This outstanding effort came after the Foundation was kindly nominated as the chosen charity by Freddie Jackson’s school friends.

Freddie is Lily Mae’s brother, making this event particularly meaningful for those involved.

So far, the team have raised a whopping £5,654.

The Lily Mae Foundation said: “We are so grateful to every single person involved: those staff who organised the ride, the students and teachers who took part, and the families and friends who offered support and donations.

“This type of community support allows us to continue helping bereaved parents when they need it most.”

The Lily Mae Foundation was founded by Amy and Ryan Jackson after the tragic loss of their baby girl, Lily Mae in 2010 at Solihull Hospital.

The Balsall Common based charity offers a one to one Baby Loss Support Service and baby boxes as well as a number of other projects aimed to help those who have lost a baby to stillbirth, neonatal death, miscarriage or medical termination.

Since it was set up over 12 years ago the charity has helped over 1,000 parents, distributing over 4,000 memory boxes and support siblings during difficult times.
