Applications to host street parties for King's coronation open

Solihull Editorial 21st Jan, 2023   0

APPLICATIONS are open for Silhillians who want to host a street party to mark the King’s coronation.

King Charles III will be coronated at Westminster Abbey alongside Camilla, the Queen Consort on May 6.

Following the coronation there will be an extra bank holiday on May 8 to allow people to ‘come together and celebrate’.

Anyone planning a street party, or any other event on the public highway, needs to notify Solihull Council and, if applicable, apply for a Temporary Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) to close a road.

The deadline for submitting a road closure application for the Coronation of King Charles III is March 24.

Solihull Council’s cabinet member for Communities and Leisure, Councillor Diane Howell, said: “We know that many of our residents will want to use the extra bank holiday on Monday, May 8, to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III with a traditional street party. If this is something you would like to do, then please get your applications in as soon as possible.

“Please also take time to read through the information on our street parties page and make sure your party is not only a joyous occasion but a safe one.”
