Appeal for volunteers to join independent prison monitors

THE Independent Monitoring Board for HMP Oakwood is appealing for new members to join its ranks.

The IMB is made up of members of the public, appointed by the Ministry of Justice, to monitor the humane and fair treatment of residents, held in custody, in their day to day life.

They are also there to ensure proper standards of care and decency are maintained which includes their preparation for release.

IMB board members are unpaid volunteers and they are fully indepdent of the judicial system and all other agencies.




Members offer support and guidance to those in custody and listen and talk to prisoners.

They also monitor all aspects of prison life and report on an annual basis to the Ministry of Justice.
