In an article on the Observer website, we incorrectly reported that Dr Amir Salama, a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Solihull’s Spire Parkway Hospital, conducted procedures that were not ‘clinically indicated’. These were stated as fact but these allegations are not proved.
It also stated that a decision about what sanctions to impose would be made at a hearing next February. This is not the case.
The Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) hearing is set to resume between March 20 and 24, 2023, and a decision will be taken then based on what has been found proved and not proved.
The tribunal will consider whether the doctor’s fitness to practice is or is not impaired.
Based on what is proved, the MPTS tribunal could take no action, issue a warning or impose a sanction.
We are happy to clear up these points and apologise to Dr Salama.
