AN AMBER cold weather alert has been issued across the West Midlands.

The level three weather warnings for icy conditions has been put into place until Friday at 9am by the Met Office.

The Met Office is forecasting temperatures could get down to -4°C in parts of the region.

It advises residents should look out for friends and family who may be vulnerable to the cold, and ensure they have access to warm food and drinks and are managing to heat their homes.

The Met Office suggests to try to maintain indoor temperatures to at least 18°C, particularly if you a person is not mobile, have a long-term illness or are 65 or over.

It also advises those at risk of cold-related illness or falls to avoid going out in the cold and icy conditions.

Any concerns for the health and welfare should be directed to the emergency services.
