A CARE home resident at The Priory Bupa Care Home in Shirley has celebrated a milestone birthday, turning 102 on July 15.

Olive Randle celebrated her big day with family, friends, and carers at The Priory care home, enjoying all her favourite activities to mark the occasion – including bingo, bowling, arts and crafts, and sitting in the garden with a choc-ice and a lemonade.

Olive’s two daughters, Eileen and Sheila also surprised their mum with a homemade cake.

When asked if she had any advice on living a long, happy healthy life, Olive said: “I believe the secret to living a long life is to be content with what you’ve got, work hard and just be happy.”

Olive moved to The Priory in 2019 after a period of respite care at the home. When reflecting on her life so far, Olive recalls enjoying many a picnic in the park as well as holidays to Rhyl and Blackpool in the caravan with her family.

She kept active as a youngster doing varying sports and enjoying dancing at The Ballroom, so she is very happy to still have good mobility – something she credits to the activities programme run by The Priory, which includes dancing and chair exercises.

Bill Moon, acting home manager at The Priory said: “We had a fantastic day celebrating Olive’s 102nd birthday.

“She is a truly remarkable lady and it was an honour to celebrate her birthday with her and her family.”

The Priory Bupa Care Home welcomes residents in need of nursing or residential care.
