THE ALE was in full flow as Lions clubs from across the borough hosted its second Beer Festival.

Beer-lovers were spoilt for choice at the Shirley Royal British Legion with over 18 cask ales on offer, together with a range of ciders.

The event, organised by Acocks Green Lions, Shirley Lions and Solihull Lions, raised around £2,200 which will be handed to Solihul Wheels for All, a cycling group for all abilities and ages and other Lions charities.

Ken Barker, chairman of the beer festival, said: “The main beneficiary of these funds will be Solihull Wheels for All who need to replenish and extend the number of specialist cycles their members use.

“Solihull Wheels for All have provided us with a shopping list of the various types of bikes they need and we hope to be able to fund the purchase of one of these bikes.

“The Lions would also like to thank Shirley British Legion for hosting the event and the Wednesday Open Mic group who provided the musical entertainment.”

He added plans are already underway for next year’s event.

Observer phototgrapher Jon Mullis was on hand to capture a snapshot of the festival.
