Age UK Solihull gets cash injections thanks to shoppers

AGE UK Solihull is set to receive a donation after being chosen by Castle Bromwich residents as their worthiest cause.

Jack’s supermarket, part of the Tesco family, launched its Jack’s Supports scheme to donate proceeds from the sale of carrier bags to local good causes voted for by its customers.

For the past three months shoppers at Jack’s Castle Bromwich have been voting for four worthy causes including: Birmingham Aston PDSA Pet Hospital, Kingshurst Caterpillars CIO, The Gina Project CIC, and Age UK Solihull, with the latter securing the additional donation.

All four charities received £250 for taking part, and Age UK Solihull were given an additional £500 following the round of voting. Age UK Solihull has a range of services created to meet the needs of older and vulnerable people in the area.

Lorraine Hart, fundraising manager for Age UK Solihull, said: “It was a great opportunity to be able to apply to Jack’s Supports, not only for the funding, but also to have the chance to highlight the Age UK Solihull name in the community in which we serve.

“Like many charities, our fundraising activities and events have been affected greatly over the past 18 months, so we are extremely grateful to Jack’s Supports and its customers in Castle Bromwich for the £750 we have received.

“This donation will help us continue to provide support to older people – especially in helping them to connect back with their community following all the lockdown periods.”
