Age UK Solihull calling for residents to Slip Into Slippers and raise funds for the elderly

Solihull Editorial 11th Sep, 2018   0

AGE UK Solihull is calling on residents to ditch their shoes and slip into slippers for a day to help local people.

The charity is asking local schools and businesses to don their slippers on October 1 to recognise Older People’s Day and raise vital funds for the charity.

Slip into Slippers, now in its fifth year, coincides with the UN International Day of Older Persons which seeks to challenge negative attitudes and outdated stereotypes and Grandparent’s Day, which is held on October 7.

The local charity, which helps over 20,000 older people in the borough each year, is asking people to join in by going to work or school in slippers and donating £1.

All money raised will stay in Solihull to help Age UK Solihull offer advice, information and practical support to the older people in the borough.

Lorraine Hart, fundraising manager at Age UK Solihull, said: “It’s an easy and fun way to raise money for the charity, but at the same time there’s a serious message about the value of older people in society, both at work and in the home, and a way to recognise all that our parents and grandparents do for us.”
