Abbeyfield communities all set to launch autumn programme

Solihull Editorial 9th Aug, 2021   0

WHAT a great combination – the traditional cuppa and a cake or two and memories of by gone days between the 1940s and 1980s.

This is a way in which the Abbeyfield communities at Hampton House and Ashleigh Road in Solihull will to be celebrating getting back into community activities after the pandemic.

On Thursday, August 19, they’re going to be launching a new programme run by volunteers at the independent living and extra care houses in Solihull.

There will be a mixture of Knit and Knatter, bingo, Moments (including tea and memories), health and well-being, Stories for the Soul, afternoon teas and lots more and the hope is more people from the community might want to come and join in as volunteers or participants.

On the Thursday there’s an introductory afternoon, with tea and cakes, music and an art activity, so things can start as soon as possible in September.

Abbeyfield offers new apartments,(Hampton House – renting or buying) and an older traditional house,(Ashleigh Road) all with two meals a day as standard.

The Abbeyfield Society was a charity which was started in the 1950s by social pioneer Richard Carr-Gomm, who understood how important it was to combat loneliness among the over 55s.

There are now Abbeyfield homes all over the world.
