A very sweet success

A SOLIHULL care provider held a cake sale outside its offices in Knowle to raise funds for Age UK.

The event at Bright Dawn Home Care in Dorridge was held as part of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.

The awareness day, on June 15, is aimed at spotlighting the issue of elder abuse, which includes physical, emotional and financial harm.

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day serves to educate the public, promote understanding and inspire efforts to support and safeguard older adults.

The cause is incredibly important to Bright Dawn Home Care and its staff who believe older people should be supported with dignity, respect and passion.

The provider said that strong ethos was at the heart of what it did everyday.

“Raising awareness of elder abuse and promoting prevention is something we feel very passionate about.”

There were a variety of delicious delights at the cake sale and Bright Dawn Home Care also wants to say a big thank you to Monica Bakes in Knowle for its generous donation to the cake sale.

It is not yet known how much was raised for Age UK.

An important cause

Age UK has a very proactive and vibrant branch in Solihull.

The charity runs weekly and monthly clubs and activities for people over the age of 65 in the borough.

The clubs offer a chance to meet new people locally and get to know the Age UK Solihull’s friendly and supportive volunteers.

The Marston Green Tavern Lunch Club takes place between 12pm and 3pm every Tuesday, The Wednesday Afternoon Club takes place from 1pm to 3pm every Wednesday at The Moseley Cricket Club and The Thursday Friends Lunch Club is from 12pm to 2.30pm every Thursday at The Red Lion Pub in Knowle.

There are also get-togethers at Land Rover Sports and Social Club (12.30pm to 2.30pm on the first Tuesday of the month), at Eastcote Park Care Home, Knowle (2pm to 3.30pm on the first Wednesday of the month) and at Hobs Meadow Pub (second, third and fourth Thursday of the month).

Other activities include Social Cafes at The Tea Chest and Asda in Shirley and a Big Knit Drop-In Group.

Age UK Solihull also offers a Befriending Service to combat loneliness and fundraising events where all the cash raised goes towards improving the lives of older people in the borough.
