A taste of life on the streets: Our Lady Of The Wayside staff rough it for a night

PUPILS and teachers from Our Lady Of The Wayside school were given a taste of what homeless life is like when they spent a night under the stars.

Members of the school’s Mini-Vinnie group built their own shelters made only from cardboard boxes and tarpaulin sheets to raise awareness of homelessness in the community.

The children then spent the night on the school field sleeping in their shelters.

The following week, the children shared their experiences and reflections with the rest of the school.

Sam in year five said: “For us it was a bit of an adventure, if I had to sleep on the streets I would be really scared.”

Tomas in year six said: “The experience made me appreciate my own home. I understand now how lucky I am.”
