GERMAN-born Markus Marquardt was only seven when he used to stand on a stool behind the bar at his parents’ pub in Bavaria and pull glasses of beer.

From that time on he became hooked on the idea of a career in hotel and catering and trained as a chef, later working in a large Munich hotel which had a catering team of around three hundred.

Now, after a life time working all over the world in hotel catering and then management both on land and at sea in the cruise line trade, Markus, 45, has been appointed Manager at the four star Marriott Forest of Arden Hotel, Golf and Country Club in Meriden.

He has arrived in the West Midlands from managing the Marriott in Bucharest and before that in Budapest.

He said: “I am delighted to be hear at the Forest of Arden and am very much looking forward to all the future holds.

“It was while working at sea on a luxury cruise liner some twenty years ago that I got an invitation to come ashore and help open a new flagship Marriott in Panama City and that began my association with what is now the largest hotel group in the world.”
