A week-long fitness event, specifically aimed at those over the age of 45, is taking place later this month at leisure centres across Solihull.

The free community event, called ‘Active for Life’, will invite over 45s to take part in a range of fun, healthy activities from Monday 20thMay until Sunday 26th May.

Now in its twelfth year, the event is hosted by leading leisure operator Everyone Active in partnership with Solihull Council, with the goal of empowering older people to enjoy exercise and find new ways to stay active.

All sessions taking place throughout the week have been adapted and designed to suit the demographic, with activities available for a range of different abilities and interests.

These include tai chi, pickleball and badminton, along with access to gym and swim throughout the week. A variety of walking sports will be on offer too, from netball to tennis, to offer a lower impact, slower paced activity.

The participating sites are Tudor Grange Leisure Centre and North Solihull Sports Centre. Both members and non-members are welcome to the event.

For those who may not be based near the centres, a variety of community-based activities are being held across Solihull too. These include a parkrun at Babbs Mill, group exercise classes at St Philip’s Church in Dorridge, and cycling taster sessions at The Pavilions Club in Kingshurst.

Emma Marshall, Contract Activity and Wellbeing Manager at Everyone Active in Solihull, said:

“There are so many benefits to staying active as you get older, from maintaining strength and coordination to supporting cardiovascular health. Not to mention, exercise can provide opportunities to socialise and have fun.

“That’s why we’re delighted to host our Active for Life event once again and welcome over 45s from the community to take part in the fantastic activities on offer. No matter your fitness level, there’s something available for everyone, and we hope people take this as an opportunity to try something new.”
