THE AWARD-WINNING musical Hairspray is returning to Birmingham.

The musical comedy is celebrating a revival at the Birmingham Hippodrome for one week from Monday October 9 to Saturday 14.

The show – starring one half of ITV comedy duo Norman Pace, Layton Williams of Billy Elliot musical fame, and X Factor’s Brenda Edwards – is based on the 1988 film of the same name by cult filmmaker John Waters, starring Divine and Ricki Lake.

Set in the US city of Baltimore in the 60s, Tracy Turnblad, a girl with big hair and big heart, is on a mission to follow her dreams and dance her way onto national TV. Tracy’s audition makes her a local star and soon she is using her new-found fame to fight for equality and bagging local heartthrob Link Larkin along the way.
