DAN Evans produced a remarkable comeback to win the longest-ever match in US Open history.
The Solihull star recovered from 4-0 down in the decider against Russia’s Karen Khachanov to win a five-set epic in five hours and 35 minutes in the first round.
Evans eventually sealed victory on the third match point before his 23rd seed opponent hit the ball into the net.
The 34-year-old secured a mammoth 6-7 (6-8), 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 6-4 victory on an outside court at Flushing Meadows.
Evans told Sky Sports: “I just tried to keep fighting – at 4-0 I thought I was out.
“I’ve got a bad headache now. It was a hell of a match. I just want to go to bed.”
Evans will play Argentina’s Mariano Navone in the second round of the men’s singles competition tomorrow (August 29).
