A SOLIHULL businessman has been bestowed an MBE in the King’s New Years Honours.
M G Moula Miah has been given the gong for services to the Bangladeshi community and to charity.
Miah is the chairman of the Rajnagar Business Group (UK and Bangladesh) and Moula Foundation, a family-run foundation which promotes charitable activity in the UK and Bangladesh.
His business group consists of restaurants including Rajnagar in Dickens Heath, hotels, recruitment, superstores, and agro-based industry.
He said: “I am honoured to be recognised as an MBE for my services to the Bangladeshi community and for charity (both locally in the UK and in Bangladesh), and I look forward to continuing my work, collaborating with others and hope that I can inspire others to remain dedicated and motivated to achieve impacts in their respective fields.”
Over the years Miah worked closely within Bangladeshi social welfare organisations such as the Bangladesh Welfare Association (Birmingham) to provide guidance, advice and support for Bangladeshis that have newly settled into Birmingham.
His business group has worked with local and international charitable causes which range from support for local schools in Solihull and charities including Oxfam, The Alzheimer’s Society and British Asian Trust.
On an international level, he has personally set up the ‘Moula Foundation’, a family-run foundation which carried out charitable activities in Bangladesh during floods, disasters and the Covid-19, pandemic.
Miah added: “Since moving to the UK in 1980, I grew up as a teenager in Birmingham and aspired to start my own businesses in this region.
“With my passion for my culture, I was so lucky to be able to launch my first restaurant in the Solihull community who welcomed me with open-arms and allowed me to explore my concept and gain widespread recognition for it.
“For me, business was more about the social impact, and I have aimed to bring cohesion amongst our British and Bangladeshi community in the city and help to promote causes which benefit society as a whole”.
