IT was perfect weather for cycling as The Ovo Energy Tour of Britain took to the roads of Warwickshire today.

The county once again welcomed some of the world’s best riders for the penultimate stage 7 of the race.

Like the women’s tour in June, the men started in Warwick, only this time they lined up at the racecourse rather than Market Square.

From Warwick the riders set off on a 185km route passing through Kenilworth, Meriden, Atherstone, Bedworth and Wellesbourne.

The finish saw the riders climb Sun Rising Hill near Edge Hill before completing two full loops of a clockwise 12-kilometre finishing circuit around Burton Dassett and Farnborough.

The stage was won by Dutchman Mathieu Van Der Poel in a time of four hours, seven minutes and 48 seconds. He also leads the overall race by 12 seconds.

ITV4 will screen a highlights programme tonight rounding up the best of the Warwickshire action.

The race finishes in Manchester tomorrow.
