Moseley get helping hand from the weather to win Dorridge derby

Solihull Editorial 10th Jul, 2019   0

MOSELEY were the beneficiaries of a rain-affected derby against Dorridge, claiming a winning draw in the Birmingham & District Premier Division One clash.

The hosts were all out for 212 in the 53rd over, while Dorridge finished their 40-over innings on 162-7 after rain interrupted their spell at the crease.

Being put into bat, Moseley openers Bhavik Patel (22) and Asim Shoaib (41) opened with a first-wicket partnership of 45, while the middle order trio of Brinder Phagura (32), Ali Awan (35) and Imandeep Kang (33) all hit solid totals.

A tailender collapse, partly thanks to David Ball’s (3-50) bowling, helped finish off the hosts and offered Dorridge an achievable target prior to their innings.

However, with showers disrupting the change of ends, Dorridge were given 15 fewer overs to bat.

With big scores needed, early dismissals for Aarib Khan (16) and Jasper Grace (1) did little to help the cause, although a stand of 93 between Gary Hawkins (63) and Ball (48) put Dorridge on 124-3.

The dismissal of Hawkins was a pivotal moment, with Siddhesh Dixit (2), Edward Thompson (0), Ball and Joe Dodd (13) promptly following suit to put an end to slim hopes of victory.

Moseley are next in action at Kenilworth Wardens, whilst Dorridge face host Shifnal (Saturday, noon).
