Delves crashes out at Oulton Park, but vows to bounce back in Pirelli National Superstock 600 Championship

SOLIHULL superbike racer Liam Delves crashed out at round two of the Pirelli National Superstock 600 Championship, after being hit by another bike during the event at Oulton Park.

A crash approaching the half-way mark of the race at Knickerbrook brought Delves’ weekend to a close, bringing an end to any hopes of a positive result following a promising weekend prior to the race.

He was placed on the third row of the starting grid, during a race that was reduced from the usual 14 laps to 12, following track contamination before to the race start.

Worsening weather conditions made for a slicker track, although Delves initially got off to a positive start.

He did, however, realise that he had made the wrong tyre choice for the track, and dropped back into 11th.

Then, on lap six, came the collision from another driver that sent Delves losing control of his bike and rendering his afternoon over.

Speaking on the race, Delves was understandably disappointed, but tried to take the positives from the round.

“The race unfortunately didn’t quote go to plan; I found I had great pace all weekend and was confident that I could make the top six, but a wrong tyre choice in sketchy conditions didn’t give me any confidence in the front.

“Then another rider made contact with me resulting in me crashing out of the race.

“That was not what I wanted, but I have plenty of positives to take to the next Round Donington Park.

“I am ok and was well protected by Knoxamour, Scott Leathers, Oxford Products and my HJC Helmet but my Via-Moto Kawasaki ZX6R was not so lucky as it suffered some serious damage.”

Delves returns to action in just over a week’s time on the National Circuit at Donington Park, during the weekend of May 24 to 26.
