SOLIHULL Barons are hopeful of a more positive scoreline when they host lowly Billingham Stars on Saturday (5.15pm), following a 12-3 drubbing by Hull Pirates last weekend.
The Pirates displayed why they were once Premier League opposition in recent history with their clincal display of finishing, but it was in fact the Barons who went in front, Steve Crowe striking from range past Jo Gent inside the opening couple of minutes – a lead quickly erased by Sam Towner’s equaliser.
On ten minutes, James Archer found his way past Dangie Brittle – a man who was kept busy in Solihull’s goal throughout the contest.
A second period brought more chances for the Pirates, with a Lubomir Korhon double and Lee Bonner finding the net, although a time-out from the Barons worked to very little effect, as two more quickfire strikes were conceded, forcing the change of Sam Hewitt replacing Brittle between the sticks.
Jonathan Kirk managed to beat Hewitt in the closing stages of the period, which stood the scoreline at 8-1 with a period to play.
The scoring continued for Hull – who netted four more times without reply – but a powerplay goal from Daniel Harrison who nudged the puck over the line and Niklas Ottosson also finding the net from Andy Whitehouse’s pass gave Solihull fans something to be enthused about.
