ICE HOCKEY: A GRUELLING weekend ended well for Solihull Barons as they picked up three points from a possible four against Hull Pirates and The Dragons.

Barons travelled to Humberside on Saturday afternoon to take on the Pirates, and the two teams contested a closely fought encounter.

Barons and Pirates both hit eight goals, forcing the game to overtime.

The home side were somewhat surprised to see the game forced into overtime.

With minutes to go, Pirates’ Sam Howner bagged Hull’s eighth goal. Failing to throw in the towel, Barons pulled their netminder and were level with only 30 seconds of the game remaining.

The last ditch goal ensured Barons rescued a point.

But the home side had the last laugh when Jonathon Kirk scored the overtime winner.

Dragons 1-11 Barons

Barons enjoyed better fortunes on Sunday night when they cruised to an 11-1 win against Deeside Dragons.

It marked a double for Barons, who beat the Dragons on home ice just a week previous.

The visiting side starred throughout the game as Tom Soar picked up a standout hat-trick.

Barons have another busy road weekend coming up with away ties at the Blackburn Hawks on Saturday and the Nottingham Lions on Sunday.

They return to home action on Sunday, November 12, when they welcome Whitley Warriors to Hobs Moat. Face-off is at 6pm.
