A LONG-STANDING pastor who founded the largest church in Solihull 44 years ago has been recognised for his services and received an OBE from Her Majesty The Queen.
Reverend David Carr opened Renewal church in August 1972 and has watched it go from strength to strength ever since- with the congregation now reaching over 1,600 people.
During his long tenure, he has worked to help thousands of people each year through the Helping Hands food bank delivering emergency food parcels to vulnerable people across the borough.
Speaking after receiving the prestigious title, Reverend David Carr said: “I was walking my dog when my wife, Molly, phoned me to tell me the news and I cried because I couldn’t believe that I would be nominated for this – I was deeply moved by it.
“The most significant thing for me over the past 44 years has always been to show people they are loved.
“We’ve all got something in our life that needs healing and I just want to show people they are cared for – which I try to do as much as I can.
“I would love to see the nine councils of churches in Solihull come together for the first time in my 44 years in the town, and show the people that Christianity is not disjointed or divided, but that we can speak with one voice for the good of the community.”
