BIRMINGHAM and Solihull Bees produced a second half comeback to beat promotion rivals Bromsgrove II 31-29 in a thriller.

Tries from Umraan Jadwat, Jack Allen, Aron Bowker-Sayce, Will Heath and Harry Garratt inspired the Bees to a crucial victory at Portway.

And the result means Solihull sit fourth in the Counties 2 Midlands West (East) table, just three points behind Berkswell and Balsall in second.

The Bees conceded a penalty in the opening few minutes of the match as Bromsgrove took an early three-point lead.

Solihull piled on the pressure against a strong Bromsgrove side but failed to trouble the scoreboard from seven entries into the red zone.

And the Boars silences the Bees on 35 minutes with a breakaway try under the posts as the visitors took a 10-point lead.

A lapse in midfield then allowed Bromsgrove to score a second try as the Boars stretched their lead to 15 points.

However, the Bees responded moments later as Jadwat finished under the posts and Heath converted to reduce the deficit to eight points at the break.

Bromsgrove also lost a player to the sin-bin moments before the interval as Solihull looked to make the most of the extra man at the start of the second period.

And the Bees made the extra player count as Allen and Bowker-Sayce crossed to turn the game in the home side’s favour as Kody Turner pulled the strings.

Heath then crossed for Solihull’s bonus point try from Turner’s slick pass and converted his own score to put the Bees into a nine-point lead.

Bromsgrove responded with a converted try of their own to close the gap to two points and set up a grandstand finish.

However, Turner broke clear of the Boars defence and passed to Garratt who scored the home side’s fifth try with just two minutes left to play.

The Boars punished a Solihull mistake at the death to take two bonus points from the fixture which keeps Bromsgrove above the Bees in the table.

Birmingham and Solihull Bees are next in action against Bournville II on Saturday, April 11 with kick-off at 3pm at Avery Fields.
