BIRMINGHAM and Solihull Bees ended a run of successive defeats with a dominant 52-22 bonus point victory against Harborne.

Both Joe Rogers and Aron Bowker-Sayce crossed twice while George Widdop, Liam Dunne, Ali Cook and Shane McDermott all dotted down for the hosts under the lights at Portway.

The result means Solihull sit fourth in the Counties 2 Midlands West (East) table, just seven points behind Berkswell and Balsall in second.

The Bees made the perfect start as Widdop scored the game’s first try after five minutes following a well-worked move in the backs as Will Heath converted.

Harborne responded with a converted try of their own only for Rogers to put the Bees back in front with an unconverted score.

And Heath and Bowker-Sayce then combined to release Rogers who ran in his second try of the game as Heath added the extras.

The visitors scored a drop goal shortly before half time to cut Solihull’s lead to nine points at the interval.

However, the Bees flew out of the blocks in the second half as Dunne crossed from close range just two minutes after the restart to score the home side’s bonus point try.

Heath’s successful conversion stretched the lead further and he added the extras again soon after when Cook finished off a flowing move.

Harborne scored a second try to reduce the deficit only for the Bees to find another gear.

Bowker-Sayce sprinted 30-metres to the line to dot down the home side’s sixth try of the match.

And the same player scored his second try of the game straight from the kick-off to take the game away from Harborne as Heath converted both tries.

Harborne scored a third try soon after as the visitors went in search of a bonus point.

However, McDermott crossed from close range late on to put the seal on the victory as Heath’s conversion drifted wide of the posts.

Birmingham are next in action against Claverdon on Saturday, March 21 with kick-off at 3pm at Ossetts Hole Lane.
