AN ASPIRING American Football player, studying at Solihull Sixth Form College, has recently returned from Sweden after representing Great Britain.
Joel Stokes has played American Football for the last three years, having started playing the sport at school.
He shared an interest in the sport after watching NFL matches with his father and now plays for Birmingham Lions.
Stokes plays at tight end, running back and receiver. He is also part of the South Coast Crusaders Academy in Farnborough.
And he recently earned a place in the Great Britain squad after coming through trials.
He travelled to Sweden last month for his second GB match after previously featuring against an All-American side.
GB established a comprehensive first-half lead against Sweden before the game was forfeited.
Stokes said: “My ambitions with American Football have always been to get into the NFL Academy in Loughborough.
“I am delighted to have been to attend trials for the Academy this month and I’m hoping I will be successful.”
He is currently studying for A-levels in English language, politics and psychology and hopes to forge a career as a solicitor or a barrister in the future.
