WARWICKSHIRE CCC have signed New Zealand international batter Will Young as a replacement for injured Black Caps captain Tom Latham.

Young will feature for the Bears in Warwickshire’s three remaining County Championship matches.

The 32-year-old top order batter has represented New Zealand across all formats.

He replaces international teammate Latham who has suffered a shoulder injury forcing him to miss his country’s test series against Zimbabwe.

Warwickshire performance director, James Thomas said: “Will is a fantastic addition to our squad for the final three County Championship matches.

“With two of those games against teams above us in the table, it’s a great chance to push hard in the title race.

“While it’s disappointing to lose Tom for the rest of the season, we know the qualities Will brings – his international pedigree, consistency in English conditions, and experience in the top order.

“We’re confident he’ll make a real impact as we look to finish the campaign strongly and challenge the leading teams.”

Young has featured for Durham, Northamptonshire and Nottingham since 2021.

He has 134 first-class matches to his name, scoring 8,404 runs at a batting average of 40.21, including 16 centuries and 50 half-centuries.

Gleeson signs new two-year deal

The club have also confirmed veteran bowler Richard Gleeson has agreed a two-year contract extension to remain with the Bears until 2027.

The 37-year-old will continue to play for Warwickshire in the T20 Blast in 2026 and 2027.

He has taken 148 wickets in 128 matches at an average of 23.48 across his T20 and Hundred career.

Gleeson said: “I’m really happy to be staying at Edgbaston for the next couple of years and playing in what is a very strong side.

“Having trialled for Bears 10 years ago at the start of my professional career, it feels completely like a full-circle moment and I’m grateful to be able to spend another two years at the club.”

Thomas added: “Richard’s skillset makes him a huge asset to any side, so extending his deal was an easy decision.

“Since joining us in 2024 he’s been outstanding – bringing not just quality with the ball but also professionalism, experience and leadership around the group.

“His story with Warwickshire is a special one, and we’re delighted it will continue.

“We’re confident he’ll play a big part in helping us compete for major honours over the next two years.”

Gleeson also spent time in the Indian Premier League with Chennai Super Kings in 2024 and Mumbai Indians in 2025.
