JAKE Lintott’s quickfire half-century inspired Warwickshire to a dramatic final over victory against Somerset in the One-Day Cup.
Lintott’s 34-ball half-century saw the Bears triumph with three deliveries to spare at Taunton.
Somerset posted 309-8 from their 50 overs as opener Tom Lammonby scored a century.
However, the Bears chipped away at the total as Lintott’s late fireworks helped Warwickshire to victory in the final over.
Warwickshire won the toss and elected to bowl as Lammonby (100) and James Rew (81) produced a 143-run third-wicket partnership.
And Thomas Rew (41) then smashed three sixes in a 29-ball innings while Alfie Ogborne (30 not out) added late runs to push Somerset past the 300-run mark.
In reply, the Bears saw three batters fall agonisingly short of reaching half-centuries.
Ron Yates (47), Zen Malik (44) and Hamza Shaikh (44) all fell within one shot of bringing up a milestone.
And Kai Smith (45 not out) also missed out on the chance to bring up a half-century but made a telling contribution.
However, Smith and Lintott inspired the Bears to victory as Michael Booth (1 not out) hit the winning single with three balls to spare.
That came after Warwickshire suffered a 28-run defeat against Middlesex at Rugby School.
The Bears restricted Middlesex to 217 all out in 48 overs as visiting skipper Ben Geddes (48) top scored with the bat.
Lintott (5-37) starred with the ball as he claimed the crucial wicket of Geddes and ripped through Middlesex’s lower order.
However, Warwickshire could only manage 189 all out in 46.4 overs as Shaikh (42) and Yates (38) top scored for the home side.
Warwickshire are next in action against Lancashire on Friday, August 22 with play to begin at 11am at Liverpool Cricket Club.
