A TEENAGER from Solihull claimed the British Schools Gymnastics Association national trampolining title in her age group at Derby Arena.

Cordi Savage, who attends Park Hall Academy, won the prestigious title in the girls’ novice category for years seven to nine after qualifying through regional and zonal rounds to reach the finals.

The 13-year-old trains at Solihull-based Altair Trampoline Club.

She was the only trampolinist from Altair in the national finals and has been competing for the club for the last three years.

The year eight pupil becomes the first Altair member to win the British Schools title for over a quarter of a century.

Altair’s head coach, Jon Wall, has run the club with his wife Emma for the last 28 years.

And Jon spoke of his pride as he watched Cordellia’s success from the stands in Derby.

Jon said: “We’re over the moon, she worked really hard to get through, she’s a really nice kid and a credit to her parents and her school.

“It surprised a few people but I was expecting her to win.

“It’s fantastic, I had tears in my eyes because it’s such a good thing to see her do so well.

“My wife was sobbing, we’re so proud of anybody at the club who does anything like that.”

Altair saw three other trampolinists knocked out in the regional and zonal rounds.

Jon and Emma are both former trampolinists.

The club is run entirely by volunteers.
