BIRMINGHAM and Solihull Bees saw their five-game winning run come to an end following a 22-12 defeat against high-flying Earlsdon.

Tries from Ryan Sleaford and Ali Cook proved in vain for the Bees who had PJ Hatch sent off on the stroke of half time at Portway.

And the result means Solihull sit sixth in the Counties 2 Midlands West (East) table.

The Bees welcomed back influential fly-half Lewis Edwards who had not featured since the opening game of the season while scrum-half Joe Davies returned to the side for the first time since November.

And Solihull crossed for the game’s first try when Sleaford scored in the corner after a neat exchange on the right wing between the try scorer, Will Heath and Jake Wright.

The game changed on the stroke of half time when a fine kick from the Earlsdon fly-half created a try for the visitors.

However, a scuffle in back play from a previous maul saw the referee show Hatch a red card.

Earlsdon eventually kicked the conversion to send the Bees into the break facing a two-point deficit.

The visitors ran in three unanswered tries after the interval to take the game away from the Bees.

However, the Bees had the last laugh as Heath broke free and offloaded the ball to Cook who crashed over as Heath added the extras.

Birmingham and Solihull Bees are next in action against Southam on Saturday, March 22 with kick-off at 3pm at Kineton Road.

Elsewhere, The Birmingham and Solihull Hornets travel to Alcester this weekend with kick-off at 2.15pm at Kings Coughton.
