It’s been a forgetful 2025 to date for Solihull Moors, who have dropped out of the running for the play-off places after a dismal run of results.
Recent defeats to the likes of Woking, Barnet, and Oldham Athletic mean that the Moors find themselves with a considerable amount of work to do heading into the final three months of the 2024/25 National League campaign.
These sluggish recent showings will be hugely frustrating for the club’s supporters, who had previously seen their side show glimpses of their exciting quality early into the season.
Solihull Moors are given little chance of making the National League playoffs, with the 33/1 being offered by bookmakers reflective of their poor run of form.
We’ll take you through three free agents that Solihull Moors should target in the near future, if they want to strengthen their squad and get their promotion push back on track.
Ethan Bristow
There had previously been high hopes for Bristow, who had caught the eye whilst coming through the academy system at Reading. The left-back is still only 23, and has his best years ahead of him if he can settle down.
He made 11 senior appearances for Reading between 2020 and 2022, before leaving the club upon the expiration of his contract with the Berkshire-based side.
Bristow then moved to Tranmere Rovers whilst in League Two, where he impressed with the fourth-tier side.
Those impressive showings seemingly didn’t go unnoticed, as the 23-year-old moved to Minnesota United just a year later in 2023 for an undisclosed fee.
Bristow made 12 appearances for Minnesota United, whilst also experiencing a loan spell with Stockport County, before mutually agreeing to terminate his contract with the American side.
His quality on the ball, and directness at full-back could certainly prove useful for Solihull Moors, and it would be a statement of intent if they could land his signature in the near future.
Fankaty Dabo
Dabo has been rather unfortunate, with the full-back being one successful penalty away from being promoted into the Premier League whilst with Coventry City.
The defender performed well for the Sky Blues in the 2022/23 season, but missed the decisive penalty against Luton Town, which saw the Hatters promoted into the top-flight at Coventry’s expense.
He was released at the end of that season when his contract expired, and struggled to make a notable impact with Forest Green Rovers in last year’s campaign, as they were relegated into the National League.
Dabo went on to join Scottish side Raith Rovers on a short-term deal earlier this season, but left the club in January 2025. He remains a free agent, and it’ll be interesting to see where his future lies.
He’s got a point to prove in English football, and a move to Solihull Moors could be the ideal move for all parties involved.
Luke Freeman
Freeman has previously been on the books with plenty of clubs within the EFL, and most notably impressed with the likes of Stevenage, Bristol City, and QPR.
The midfielder also spent four years with Arsenal as a youngster, but failed to make the grade with the Gunners.
Freeman has shown real creative talent for Bristol City and QPR whilst in the Championship, but has been without a club since 2024, after he couldn’t reach an agreement with Barnet, having spent a short spell of time with the National League side.
It remains to be seen as to whether Freeman would be able to agree a deal with Solihull Moors, but he’s a player that would certainly add quality to their squad, and his experience could also prove useful for the Moors.
