BIRMINGHAM and Solihull Bees secured a third straight win with a hard-fought 24-19 bonus point victory against Broadstreet II.
Tries from Will Heath, Joe Davies, Alex Grove and Harry Garratt sealed another impressive win for the Bees at Portway.
The result means Solihull sit seventh in the Counties 2 Midlands West (East) table.
Bees player Garratt made his 50th appearances for the club having progressed through the club’s mini and junior sections.
Heavy rainfall made for difficult conditions with both teams keen to play open attacking rugby with ball in-hand.
The game sparked into life on 23 minutes when Heath dove over in the corner from the base of a scrum to score the game’s first try with the home side unable to add the extras.
Broadstreet turned the game in their favour later in the first half as the visitors crossed for a converted try.
The Bees turned down a couple of chances to kick for the posts as Cole Elleman looked for territory.
And the decision paid off when Bees captain Davies crashed through a number of defenders to touch down after a fine break from Lewis Holsey.
Heath kicked the conversion to send the home side into the break with a five-point lead.
A well-worked move from a lineout saw the Bees extend their lead after the interval as Grove dotted down with Heath unable to convert the try.
However, after the Bees turned down more kickable penalty opportunities, Broadstreet scored a breakaway try against the run of play to close the gap to three points.
The Bees defended well to keep the visitors at bay in the next few minutes as Broadstreet looked to turn their momentum into points.
However, Garratt marked his 50th Bees appearance with Solihull’s bonus point try five minutes from time as Heath’s conversion put the home side two scores in front.
Broadstreet rescued a losing bonus point with a last gasp try as the Bees claimed another hard-fought victory.
Birmingham and Solihull are next in action against Claverdon on Saturday, February 22 with kick-off at 2.15pm at Ossetts Hole lane.
