BIRMINGHAM and Solihull Bees secured their first away win since September with a bonus point 39-26 victory against struggling Old Wheatleyans.
Both Tom O’Hanlon and Cameron May crossed twice while Will Heath, Oisin Hollywood and Liam Dunne also dotted down for the Bees at Norman Place Road.
The result means Solihull sit eighth in the Counties 2 Midlands West (East) table.
Bees made the perfect start when the returning O’Hanlon ran in the game’s first try from inside his own half inside the first minute from Cormach Papirnik’s pass.
And the visitors crossed again on 10 minutes as Heath charged down a clearance and collected the loose ball to score Solihull’s second try.
Old Wheatleyans responded with a try of their own only for O’Hanlon to race clear for a second time and score under the posts as Heath kicked the conversion.
However, after feeling some discomfort in his hamstring, O’Hanlon left the field with Hollywood coming on in his place.
May then marked his 50th appearance for the club with a try as he finished off a flowing move.
And replacement Hollywood sped away from the Old Wheatleyans defence to score the away side’s fifth try before the break with Heath again converting.
Despite losing Ali Cook to a yellow card before the break, the Bees took a commanding 22-point lead into the second half.
The home side scored the first try of the second period before Dunne powered over for the Bees.
Old Wheatleyans crossed again soon after before May dotted down his second try of the game following sustained pressure on the home side’s line.
The hosts scored their bonus point try with the last play of the game as Solihull ended a run of four straight defeats on the road.
Birmingham and Solihull are next in action against Coalville on Saturday, February 8 with kick-off at 2.15pm at Portway.
