ALVECHURCH cyclist Cameron Biddle turned on the style to finish eighth out of 100 riders in the Junior Tour of Ireland.

The teenager, who coaches at Redditch Road & Path Cycling Club and represents Solihull Cycling Club, rose to the challenge as he competed in the only six-day stage race for junior riders in Europe.

The County Clare event took place in mid-July and consisted of six stages – a time trial on the first day, a road race over the next four days ranging between 110-118km and on day six a 77km circuit race – climbing 16,000ft over the six days.

Biddle travelled with the British Cycling West Midlands team of four junior (17-18 years old) riders and did consistently well in all of the races as he competed against riders from America and Europe.

After the last race, the times taken for each race are added together for each rider and, just like the Tour de France, the rider completing it in the least amount of time wins the overall event.

Eighth place is a tremendous result for Biddle, who was also sixth in the King of the Mountains competition.
