Wasps learn new fixture dates

Solihull Editorial 13th Jul, 2020   0

WASPS’ 2019/20 Gallagher Premiership campaign has moved a step closer to resuming following the unveiling of new fixture dates.

Premiership Rugby has revealed Wasps will travel to Franklin’s Gardens to take on Northampton Saints on Sunday, August 16, before Lee Blackett and his side face a home encounter against Midlands rivals Worcester on Friday, August 21.

Wasps’ third Gallagher Premiership fixture of the restart will see them play midweek at Ricoh Arena against Sale on Tuesday, August 25.

The team will then travel to The Rec to play Bath on Monday, August 31 to round off the first four rounds of fixtures since lockdown.

The club is awaiting further guidance on whether the games will be played behind closed doors, while kick-off times and any potential live TV coverage for these games will be announced in due course.

Stephen Vaughan, Wasps Group chief executive, said: “We know this announcement will be music to the ears of so many of our supporters and partners and we are just as excited to see the return of rugby after so long.

“We have some of the best supporters in the league who play an important role in spurring the team on and we are working hard behind the scenes to seek further clarity on whether they will be able to attend these matches. We will look to provide an update as soon as is practically possible.

“The welfare of our supporters is of paramount importance and work has been ongoing at Ricoh Arena to ensure that, when crowds are allowed back, they can enjoy a game of rugby in a safe environment.”

Details of Wasps’ five other remaining Gallagher Premiership fixtures against Saracens, Leicester Tigers, Bristol Bears, Harlequins and Exeter Chiefs will be confirmed in due course on wasps.co.uk.
