FOOTBALL and futsal coach Chris Bright has been identified by the leading body for coaching in Britain – UK Coaching – as one of the community heroes who is helping people keep active during the pandemic.

Bright, from Redditch, is a former semi-professional footballer with Type 1 diabetes. He set up The Diabetes Football Community – a not for profit organisation – in 2017 with the aim of supporting the needs of diabetics who share a passion for football.

The Welsh international futsal player has been sharing his tops tips on supporting those with chronic health conditions to stay active and giving advice to the coaching workforce.

The former Studley, Bromsgrove Sporting, Pershore Town and Earlswood Town player said: “It’s great to be recognised by UK Coaching for the work that I’m doing to support those living with long-term health conditions.

“It’s a difficult time for everyone but particularly those who have chronic health conditions. I’m passionate about getting people active and want to continue showing that great coaching can help our communities at this time.”

UK Coaching’s director of coaching Emma Atkins said: “Coaches like Chris are invaluable to our communities.

“We’re living in unprecedented times where access to space and resources are limited and parents and guardians are having to undertake the role of both schoolteacher and sports coach.

“We’re privileged to have such brilliant people as part of the nation’s coaching workforce, who are sharing their expertise and advice with others at a time when it is more important than ever to stay physically and mentally active.”

You can watch Bright’s videos on UK Coaching’s Facebook and Instagram pages.
