West Midlanders want a holiday more than anything else

HAVING a holiday is top of people’s agenda in the West Midlands.

With the Government having announced its first steps towards easing the stringent Covid-19 lockdown measures, a new opinion poll reveals the top 10 activities West Midlands residents would want to do first if there were no restrictions – beyond visiting family:

1. Go on holiday (36%)

2. Go for a meal in a restaurant (33%)

3. Have a haircut (32%)

4. Visit a friend (31%)

5. Go shopping (31%)

6. Go to the pub (28%)

7. Go to the beach (22%)

8. Go for a coffee (19%)

9. Go on a night out (15%)

10. Go to the cinema (13%)

The West Midlands is the only region of the UK to have put going on holiday ahead of all other activities and excursions.

The research from High Speed Training, which involved 2,000 Brits, found the top three things the nation would want to do if the lockdown was lifted were to have a haircut, visit friends and go for a meal in a restaurant.

The findings also reveal it was those in the North East who have the biggest appetite to get down the local, with 38 per cent stating a trip to the pub would be their ideal first outing – ten per cent higher than any other region of the UK.

Contrary to public belief, millennials across the UK proved they were more interested in dining out than personal appearance, as going for a meal at a restaurant was the most popular activity among this age group (39 per cent) – behind visiting friends – compared to a mere ten per cent that would rank getting a beauty treatment at the top of their priorities.

Richard Anderson at High Speed Training said: “The findings prove that after seeing our nearest and dearest, Brits are longing for life’s simple pleasures.

“From enjoying a pint at the pub to sipping a coffee at a local café, activities supporting the hospitality sector have all featured in the top 10 activities that we’d like to do first if there were no restrictions – a promising sign for the industry.”

The poll also concluded that Brits were not missing the arts, as less than one in ten would head to the theatre (seven per cent) or gig (six per cent) as our first post-lockdown outing, with a much-needed night out (12 per cent) and revitalising swim (nine per cent) fairing more popular.
