TRIBUTE has been paid to a former Warwick councillor.

Lady Celia Jean Liggins CBE, known to most as Jean, passed away in Yorkshire on December 27 after a short illness, aged 92.

She leaves behind her children John and Caroline, her stepson Terry and both grandchildren and great grandchildren.

As well as serving Warwickshire as a Conservative county councillor, Jean, who was born in Coventry, also counts being chairman of the West Midlands Conservative party, Myton School, and South Warwickshire Healthcare Trust among her repertoire. She was also board member of Coventry Cathedral, The Belgrade Theatre and Mercia Sound.

In 1990 she received a CBE for services to politics and the community. She was an avid cricket fan and supporter of Warwickshire County Cricket Club and a much-loved member of the Coventry Operatic Society.

There will be a small family funeral and, when social distancing restrictions permit, a memorial service will be held on a date to be advised.

The family request that any charitable donations should made to Cancer Research UK.
