Shirley school celebrates diamond anniversary in style

THERE was double delight at a Shirley Secondary School – not only did the school celebrate its 60th anniversary but it also opened a new sixth form centre.

The Lord Lieutenant of the West Midlands, Sir John Crabtree, officially opened the centre before the half term break as diamond anniversary celebrations were under way.

During the ceremony the Lord Lieutenant told students about his journey from education and achievements, inspiring them to dream big and realise their potential.

The school prefects then joined Sir John to bury the Light Hall time capsule, to commemorate 60 years of teaching students at Light Hall.

It is hoped the capsule will be lifted in 100 years’ time and present future students and staff with a clear insight into what school life is like for the students and staff in 2024.

A spokesperson from Light Hall School said: “We’re incredibly excited to welcome our first Year 12 cohort in September and wish all our applicants the best of luck in the rest of their exams.”
