School for bullied children looking to expand

Solihull Editorial 17th Feb, 2020   0

A SCHOOL for bullied children is looking to expand so it can help even more youngsters.

Northleigh House School in Hatton currently caters for 30 vulnerable secondary school aged pupils. Places at the school, which opened its doors in 2012, are in great demand with some 400 applications received a year.

The school was founded by 76-year-old Viv Morgan and her late husband Fred. The couple turned their ten bedroom home into a school after hearing increasingly common stories about children committing suicide due to bullying.

But now Viv says the school needs to expand so it can accommodate even younger children, and is looking to open a primary school from September and also extend its secondary education provision.

With the current premises on Five Ways Road already at capacity, she is appealing for anyone who knows of potential new premises to provide the extra space needed.

Viv – who was last year made an MBE for her work – said: “We take the time to get to know our children well – aided by small group sizes. Over the last eight years we have developed an environment for children to flourish and we want to be able to support more children in the future.

“Northleigh addresses a growing need for a safe, calm and progressive learning environment to help children recover from the effects of high anxiety, regain their inner confidence and believe in their own potential.

“However, demand is high, our 2020 intake is already full and the waiting list is growing longer each day.

“Finding premises for primary provision and secondary expansion is now a major priority.”

“The new primary would open first with a maximum of five children, eventually expanding to 30. The secondary school may take a year or two to establish and would take an extra 30 children.”

Anyone with information about suitable premises should call Viv on 07789 597704.
