New train ticket allows passengers to only pay for journeys they use

A NEW Flexi-Travel ticket has been launched to enable rail commuters in the West Midlands to only pay for the journeys they use.

It has been released in light of the Coronavirus pandemic and more people either working some of their week from home or going part-time.

Flexi-Travel sees passengers allowed to make ten return journeys on the same route in one calendar month for a fixed price – the equivalent of needing to get to the office two to three days-a-week.

With traffic returning to 86 per cent of pre-lockdown levels, the ticket provides an attracted non-time-restricted alternative with a five per cent saving compared with paying for the ten return journeys.

Lawrence Bowman, deputy managing director at West Midlands Trains, said: “With recent research indicating a change in work patterns and people splitting their working week between home and office, this ticket represents an affordable solution for our customers.

“Flexi-Travel is a fairer, flexible ticket which responds to these major changes and provides the best value for part-time commuters.”

Flexi-Travel is available to purchase from staffed tickets offices at stations. It is available on all West Midlands Railway routes as well as all London Northwestern Railway routes in and out of London. All tickets must have the same start and end stations.

West Midlands Trains says it is a thank you to its customers, adding it will run as many trains as it can with as many carriages as possible to maximise space and enable social distancing.
