HOMELESS dogs are hoping to find somewhere to put their paws up this Christmas.
After the success of the Observer and Dogs Trust’s 12 Dogs of Christmas appeal in recent years – we are again appealing to readers to find a place in their hearts and homes for a four-legged friend.
Some of the dogs looking for a place of their own have been at the Kenilworth branch of Dogs Trust for years.
Centre manager Emma Healey said she is hoping people will open up their hearts and homes while remembering the charity’s slogan ‘A Dog is for Life, not just for Christmas.’
She said: “These dogs each have differing looks, personalities and needs but each one will make a wonderful addition to a loving new home so we are appealing for anyone who would like to rehome one of these deserving dogs to please get in touch.
“A dog can be such a rewarding addition to any family, but they do come with long-term responsibilities that will have a lasting impact on their new owner’s life.
“We would encourage anyone who believes a dog is for life and wants to welcome a four-legged friend into their lives in 2020 to visit us and give a dog a second chance to have the wonderful life all dogs deserve. We have plenty of dogs all looking for their special someone.”
Olivia is a nine-year-old Lucher who has spent years in kennels. She loves her food and zooming around to burn off her energy. She’s a clever pooch and would enjoy a home with owners who can stimulate her mind through trick training or agility. Olivia loves her home comforts and snoozing on a large, cosy duvet in her kennel. She is looking for an adult-only home where she’ll be the only pet. She can be shy at first but soon comes around if there is a tasty treat involved.
Labrador cross Chase is tennis ball mad. The three-year-old does not like being left alone so needs owners who are around for most of the day. He prefers female company so would prefer a woman owner. He is very bright and likes to play, especially fetch. He will need to be the only dog in his new home but can mix with other dogs when out.
Nine-year-old Jack Russell Terrier Flossy loves a comfy bed to relax in and curling up in your lap. She needs patient owners who will take their time getting to know her along with an adult-only, pet-free home.
Charlie is a eight-year-old Greyhound who is a firm favourite with the volunteers as he walks so beautifully on the lead. He is a friendly boy but he does have a worried side when it comes to new situations and people so will need a quiet, adult-only home. He will need to be the only pet in his new home but would be able to walk alongside other dogs when out once he has gained a bit of confidence around them.
Rocky is a seven-year-old Jack Russell Terrier who is full of fun. New owners will need to go slowly with him while he gains confidence, but once he does he is very bouncy and likes to play. He needs an adult-only home with no other dogs and would love a large secure garden to run around in.
Four-year-old Harrier Bailey is toy mad and will happily entertain himself. He is looking for a quiet but active home with new owners who will give him lots of time to settle into his new environment. He loves his walks and putting his hound nose to good use when out and about.
Greyhound Dash is a shy boy who finds new situations a little bit scary. The six-year-old is looking for a very quiet home with new owners who will take their time getting to know him. He would like a secure garden where he can explore at his own pace until he comes out of his shell. He’d like his new family to come and meet him several times to get to know him before taking him now. He needs to be the only dog and could live with older teenagers.
Staffordshire Bull Terrier Kaiser is deaf, but that doesn’t stop him living life to the full. The six-year-old is a lively, friendly boy looking for an active, adult only home with new owners who will have the time to train and exercise him. He is currently learning sign language so his new family will need to continue this in the home. He is looking for a home without children but could live with another dog.
Sweet Lurcher Oliver has been at the centre for years. The eight-year-old loves his food, which staff say is a great way to build a bond with him and practice his training. He’d suit a fairly quiet home with patient new owners who will give him plenty of time to get used to his new environment. He could live with children aged 12 years or over as long as they give him time on his own when he needs it. Oliver will need to be the only pet in his new home and to be walked in quiet areas.
Six-year-old Beagle Charlie loves using his nose to explore his surroundings and enjoys quiet walks. He is not fond of being touched too much so his new owners will need a hands-off approach until he knows and trusts you. He is loves food and enjoys learning new things for a treat. He needs a quiet, adult-only home and his new family would need to visit him a few times to build a bond and continue the training his canine carers have put in place.
Woody is a eight-year-old Collie Cross who is currently in a foster home. He is housetrained and can be left alone for a few hours providing he has plenty to keep him occupied. He is anxious so enjoys playing with toys and spending time relaxing in the garden, rather than the hustle and bustle of busy walks. He’d like an adult only, pet-free home.
Nine-year-old Crossbreed Murphy loves his home comforts especially curling up on a comfy duvet. He might be on the older side, but he still loves getting out and about so would like a fairly active home with patient new owners who will give him plenty of time to get used to his new environment. He loves his toys, especially footballs and a kick around with a ball in the garden. He can be picky about his doggy friends but could possibly live with a quiet female dog in his new home. Murphy would like to get to know his new owners before going home, so several meets with him to build a bond is a must.
